Victim of a broken elbow on the mixed relay, the Dutchwoman hung on and surprised her rivals by anticipating the sprint to win her second career rainbow tunic.
Annemiek van Vleuten, 40, has had a great season, notably winning Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the Giro, the Tour de France, and this new world title.

🇳🇱 Annemiek van Vleuten ran with head and legs. The cleverest in the final and a sharp attack 800m from the line was enough to get rid of everyone. pic.twitter.com/EWgDFc4tla

Men’s Road Race
Remco Evenepoel, 22, winner of the Vuelta a few days ago, continues to mark the history of cycling. The Belgian prodigy had also won this year Liège Bastogne Liège, his first monument, and the Clasica San Sebastian.
Here he is now with 15 successes in 2022 and above all with the world champion jersey on his back for the next twelve months, after a huge feat on the roads of Wollongong.
Remco Evenepoel came out of the box for the first time 80 kilometers from the finish in Mount Pleasant, the main difficulty of the Wollongong circuit.
While Wout Van Aert, Tadej Pogacar, Julian Alaphilippe and Michael Matthews stayed warm in the peloton, Evenepoel accompanied the offensive led by the French Quentin Pacher, Stan Dewulf and Quinten Hermans.
After two new unsuccessful attempts, Remco Evenepoel was able to place a new acceleration 35 terminals from the finish. Only Alexey Lutsenko was able to accompany him, but a little less than ten kilometers further, the Kazakh was no longer able to keep up with the Belgian’s tempo.

The rest is 26 kilometers of time trial after… 240 kilometers of racing. A tremendous demonstration of strength and talent for this extraordinary champion who pulls off an anthology solo.
Four years after his crowning among the juniors, he is crowned among the adults. In tears, after his immense feat, he even had time to give a first interview before seeing a small peloton arrive for 2nd place.
A silver medal and a bronze medal which was promised to the five men placed behind Evenepoel, but by dint of looking at each other and doing anything, they allow the hunting group to come back.
And suddenly a huge Christophe Laporte will stand on his pedals and come and get a magnificent silver medal ahead of Matthews, Van Aert and Trentin.
